Xenos Stabilator rib and fwd spar question

Postby trwolf » Wed Jan 02, 2019 1:07 pm

Update: My first question was builder error! But, the second one was for real and I ended up getting approval from Sonex to mill out a small portion of AL where the AN bolt head contacted the fuse skin.

I am assembling my Xenos Stab and after building all the ribs I am finding that #4 is 1/4" too short due to a step down of 1/4" after the aft spar cap. I have been all over the plans and reviewed my measurements numerous times and came to the same conclusion that the callout is wrong! Yet I find no mention of this anomaly on any of the Sonex websites. Have I missed something or has no one had this problem?

Secondly, I find that the root rib clip AN bolt that attaches the clip to the rib runs interference with the forward bulkhead and skin. There is no mention of radiusing this area or any workaround in the plans or on Sonex websites. Any thoughts out there?

I had a similar issue on my Waiex. Check out the last post of page 1 and onto page 2.

Thanks all. Got a note into Sonex. Waiting for response. My first response is always "I can fix this"! I am learning (slowly) to listen to wiser counsel.

Problem solved. I failed to read the fine print! I simple took the cut to lengths and formed the ribs to fit the rib dimensions called out. As I remeasured and looked closer at the plans I now see that the fine print calls for a specific length and not the cut to minus the formed ends. So shoot me. This is fixable and a good lesson before I get to something more critical.
