Fourth Annual NC Sonex Spring Fly-in Wrap-up

The fourth annual NC Sonex Spring Fly-in was held on the 11th of May 2013. Registered we had 15 Sonex's and 90 people. Unfortunately due to weather many people were not able to attend. We ended the day with 5 Sonex's and 55 people attending the event. The day started out nice with registration and demo rides. We manage to give 11 people a ride, Unfortunately time ran out and four people missed out on rides, they were Donald Lewis, Frank Cordrey, Binh Nguyen, David Aker. We apologize to those folks. We had two Sonex aircraft and a vintage Ercoupe giving rides. Wayne Andrews and Peter van Schalkwyk gave Sonex rides and Claude Burkhead gave rides in his Ercoupe. Attendee’s receiving Sonex rides were Bill Rushing, Anne Bernoux, Jeremian Lewis, Larry Ayers, Chris Arnold, Alan Waters, Ryan Drouin, Eric Arnold, and Jeff Claridge. Getting rides in the Ercoupe were Jeshuah Lewis and Jesich Lewis.

At noon, we broke for lunch with Pizza from a local pizza establishment. Once everyone had their fill, we welcomed everyone to the fly-in. We then had a presentation on Aircraft Painting with Automotive Paint by a local EAA Technical Counselor Terry Gardner. The presentation seemed well received by attendees. With weather starting to move in we moved into the door prize awards. Bill Rushing was the lucky winner of the MGL "G"Meter worth $200.00 and Doug Raby bought the Prince "E"series propeller that was offered to ASA- SE at a special price by Lonnie Prince. Door prizes from Wicks Aircraft, Sonex, MGL, Aircraft Spruce, Trade-a-Plane went quickly. We would like to thank all the sponsors for their generosity and helping to make this event a success.

Everyone again returned to the Ramp to talk more about the attending Sonex aircraft. Charley Steffey gave those that were interested a chance to see a set of Sonex plans and he gave a brief overview to them. Peter and Wayne continued to give demo flights, but weather was quickly moving in at this point. Attendees departed to their homes and we concluded the day. We’d like to thank all the pilots and attendees for making this another great fly-in.

Now onto planning the next event, the Tenth Annual American Sonex Association Fly-in will be held on Friday and Saturday October the 11th and 12th 2013 at Crossville, TN (KCSV) for two days of fun and flying.
