I have mine too rich atm.... will dial it back flight by flight till it's right... number 3 needle.

Least I'm at sea level. Makes it a bit easier.

I run the #3 also and when set right it does not require mixture changes unless and when you have a cylinder getting hot on climb out. Then a 1/4 inch movement richer will cool it down and you can put it back during cruise to get the temps where you want them. I don't touch my mixture from one flight to the next in cool weather. Wide open at 3200 and idle at 975 with no mixture change.

I think the key to Aerocarb success is to set the mixture needle rich of what you need. Not to the point of stalling the engine, but where it will run at full mix. Then when you fly, you always pull back the mixture to what the engine needs. This is key for us high altitude airfields guys. We typically will start full mix, then pull back a lot to get the engine happy. A bit rich for take off, and then slowly bring it lean as we climb out. Of course this really works if you can watch EGTs. I've found that when I fly down to sea level, I'm nearly full rich to keep it running well. But when I'm home, I'm pulling mixture almost to idle cutoff.

That is exactly what I do, even down here in hot/cold/744 msl old Texas. I take off with mix set to allow full rpm, something north of 3050 say while doing run up, then launch and watch hottest egt and lean appropriately, or richen up of needed. so far this has worked with the #3 needle. hot idle after landing is 900+ or -. And I always jab the throttle to be sure power is there on final in case i need a go around. I have about 23 hours on engine so far. Fly safe!
