2200 rings

Postby petep » Mon Nov 12, 2018 8:21 pm

The Jabiru overhaul manual call out a piston ring with a slot in to be installed in the second ring grove and the square one in the top slot. On my older 2200 both rings are square and the new set I got by part number are both square. Anyone know what this is about?

This is a good place for that sort of information. https://jabiru.net.au/service/technical-forum/

Don't know the reason for it being different from the manual, however if the former and the new rings are both square than I wouldn't worry about it. I just got new rings for a 3300 solid lifter and one ring appeared square with no markings and one appeared square with a dot punched in one side. upon closer (much closer) examination I noticed a slight angled exterior side of the ring that is actually angled to scrape oil back toward the crankcase. The dot must be installed toward the top of the piston I believe. The unmarked ring from my understanding is truly square and it does not matter which side is up.
