Mojave: The place to be April 20th, 2013

Regardless of where you live, mark your calendars for April 20th, 2013 to be in Mojave, California!

To be clear, this is not a Sonex specific event, but a gathering of the people and machines that best represent everything Experimental Aviation has to offer. A true grass-roots effort to get like minded folks of similar passions together, and talking with one another. There are going to be one-off, exotic, and amazing examples of home-brewed aviation here on the 20th. No telling how large the event will become, but the website is already getting thousands of hits daily. The Sonex community has its place here at this event, and at a minimum N142YX will be on display again. I would love to see the ramp covered with examples of our little airplanes. If you missed the first annual gathering of the Southern California Sonex Builders back in January, here is your chance to make up for it. If you have been looking for the opportunity to see the best collection of some truly wild aircraft this side of Oshkosh, now is your chance. If you eat, sleep and breath "experimental", don't miss this!

Why does this event specifically hit home for the Sonex community? One of the confirmed guests at the event will be Bob Carlton, and he will be bringing his jet sailplane with him. Here is your chance to meet the man who made the first flight in the SubSonex jet, and see a TJ-100 engine up close!

Here are some other amazing pieces of aviation history that have already confirmed to be at the event:

along with many more, and the list is growing daily. This is going to be a great event for any experimenter.. don't miss out! See you there!

Here are the pictures I took on saturday. There was a strong turnout and it was a lot of fun!

There are more photos on the last post to the website: http://www.mojaveflyin.com

I ended up giving Bob Carlton a helping hand installing his engine and wings.. he turned out to be a really cool, down to earth guy!

Two Thunder Mustangs made an appearance

And a real mustang showed up. I have never seen a warbird in better condition in my life. Everything on this machine was perfect. The hydraulic tubes inside the gear wells were polished. It was unbelievable!
