Found a nice piece of stainless at scrap yard for 18 dollars. Firewall cut drilled and bent. Fits great.

So last night I listened to two pod casts, airovee build and the corvair choice. Which left me thinking both are good. I have a airovee mount I bought from a third or fourth defunct builder along with a cowling and some channel but now considering if I should rethink it. If I would go the corvair way I would need the mount for 1200.00 if I can’t find plans for it which would impact my budget. I definitely could make it but I can’t find the drawing anywhere. The airovee sounds good if built with diligence which I think I could do but the reported two up rate of climb bothers me a little so I’m in the air ( no pund intended) about my choice. One more thing is I have know idea how old the mount I have is and read somewhere on here that early ones cracked. Thanx billy

Billy,

First off, you are crushing this build. Keep up the good work. I like following your lightening fast progress.

Secondly, as a Corvair builder/supporter, I actually think that the Aerovee might be a better fit for you. I think you would be in at least $10k more for a good Corvair build vs. Aerovee, especially if you already have the mount and cowling. You could probably get a great deal on a used Aerovee from a builder who is upgrading, and rebuild it yourself with very little invested.

I love Corvairs, but they cannot really compete with the Aerovee on cost anymore. The upgrades over the years have improved weaknesses in the engine, but have come at a higher cost.

I don't have any comment on engine choice but I'm with Mike. This is a hoot to watch.

Hey Billy, do you have wheel pants yet? I have a 12 year old set that has been stored inside. I think they look the same today as they did back then. They are yours for the cost of shipping if you need them.

Thanx Mike for the input on engine. Still have some time to think about it. For sure airovee if I can’t find mount drawings. Billy

Does anyone know how to tell if I have the mount that cracks?
