2018 Mid West Sonex Fly In

Postby planeolbob » Sun Apr 08, 2018 9:25 pm

Hi Everyone,
I had planned to have the MWSFI on May 26th. However, due to a more than full plate here at home I cannot host it this year. As you remember, last year we had a rain out. Ray did a great job hosting. Maybe someone can do it again this year. I hope I can attend. I know this is short notice but that is just what happens sometime.

Blue skies,
Bob Mika

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Our host Bob "Shine On" Mica has a full plate and is unable to host the 2018 MWSFI. Thank you, Bob, for all your hard work in the past.
The torch has been picked up by Rick "NWA Wingman" Wantz, Sonex 367SX, and he has volunteered me, Frank "Captain" Kilmek, Onex 1970T, to help out.
We are based in Fayetteville, Arkansas at Drake Field, KFYV, located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains in northwest Arkansas.
The date is June 2, 2018 starting at 8:00 a.m. and finishing when the last plane departs.
We have our EAA chapters meeting room available located in a WWll era hangar which also houses the Arkansas Air Museum. Next door is the
Military Museum and Rick is working on a discount for those that want to tour both displays.
We plan on burning burgers, brats or dogs along with the usual stuff that goes with it.
If anyone attending would like to speak about safety, flying or building, it would be welcomed and greatly appreciated.
All owners, builders, plans holders, wanna bees and ALL pilots and Planes of any descriptions are welcome to attend.
Hopefully we draw the usual crowd along with other Sonex owners from Oklahoma, Texas ans Mississippi. (Jeff?)
There will be additional information following as time goes on. Warning: If you fly around the area you will be tempted to sell out and move here.
Hope to see you there.

Doubt my plane will be out of “Faze Won” by then, but I am putting it on the calendar. See all then.

2018 Midwest Sonex Fly-in is officially scheduled for June 2nd at Fayetteville, AR Drake Field KFYV! Frank Klimek, Jim McNabb, and myself are happy to do our part to help promote Sonex Aircraft to all that are interested in this great airplane! The Midwest Sonex Fly-in has meant a great deal to me over the years and help encourage me along while I was building my Sonex. A big thanks goes out to all those that those that helped put the Midwest Sonex Fly-in together over the years!

Originally we had hope to be able to offer discount admission to the Arkansas Air and Military Museum, but due to a wedding scheduled the same day, tours are not going to be possible. But the good news is we are still able to have 2018 Midwest Sonex Fly-in in our normal EAA chapter 732 meeting area at the back of the museum where we have plenty of room for lots of Sonex aircraft to park.

Looking forward to seeing all our Sonex friends and making new ones!

Not that Fayetteville Drake Field KFYV isn’t beautiful enough, I just wanted to let everyone know about some of my favorite Ozark back-country airport that are worth visiting the weekend of Midwest Sonex Fly-In. Most of these places have restaurants and camping available too. So, start making your plans to attend this years Midwest Sonex Fly-In and while you’re at it you might as well make a weekend of it and take advantage of what the Ozarks has to offer the flying community!

How cool would it be if we had the first SubSonex Jet show up at the Midwest Sonex Fly-In! I was looking at the SubSonex completion builders data base and notice there is a completed SubSonex jet near St Louis, Mo. If anyone knows a SubSonex builder, please see if they would like to add the MidWest Sonex Fly-In to their schedule. We would love to see them attend and have a great 100 X 6000 ft runway for a SubSonex arrival.

With only two weeks out till the Midwest Sonex Fly-In I wanted to send a note out to recognize some of the great companies that chose to help sponsor this event by providing some wonderful door prizes. Frank and myself have been working with these sponsors and promised that they would not go without being recognized. We would like to offer a big Thank You from the Sonex community!

Well, it's two weeks till the 2018 Midwest Sonex Fly In at Drake Field (KFYV) in beautiful Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Rick Wantz and myself hope you can take time out of your busy schedules to come visit, meet new Sonex people, wanna be Sonex people, builders and owners.
There will be enough food and drink and plenty of hanger talk to go around. Hopefully there will be a few Sonex aircraft to examine.
This year there have been several sponsors that have shipped us a few door prizes and they include:
Sonex Aircraft...A hat, 3 tee shirts, an autographed book from the man himself, John Monett, Sonex patches and pins.
GRT Avionics...A coupon for a 50% discount on a 7 series GRT Avionics EFIS.
Wicks Aircraft...A Headset and a LED portable shop light.
Aircraft Spruce...A $25.00 certificate.
WagAero...A $25.00 certificate.
Sensenich Props...A 27" display propeller with a clock in the hub.
AND.... From that Prince of a man, Lonnie Prince owner and CEO of PAC....Get This...A certificate that can be redeemed for a New Elliptical Propeller! the winner of this
will be given a form / certificate to order a prop for his or her Sonex. The coupon can be filled out for diameter, pitch and engine type. This also includes shipping!!
There are some other companies that should respond with door prizes (hopefully) in the next few days.
You cant beat that. Lonnie can't make it but his generosity will be there in full force. Lonnie we can't thank you enough.
Now gentlemen, if that ain't worth flying or driving in here for i don't know what is.
Rick has also had stickers commemorating the 2018 Midwest Sonex Fly In printed and will be handed out.
We hope to see you here.
