AirVenture 2018

Announce and discuss upcoming fly-ins

I was on the grounds last year both Saturday and Sunday, and it was a strange mix of operations going on. Planes were arriving, people were milling about, but the vendors were VERY busy building their exhibits and stocking their booths. It was actually quite chaotic. I think EAA's move to limit general traffic in the exhibit areas is not a bad one. I do think their messaging could have been a bit cleaner on this, though. The press release almost had a negative edge to it. Another option would be to encourage vendors to be complete with their setup prior to Sunday, and that way early arriving pilots would have something interesting to do after getting their planes and campsites situated!

I'll be going to Airventure for the first time this year. I'll be flying in from Dayton on the 27th and heading home on the 29th. I'll be using a club plane this year as I'm bring my mom and my two sons (hopefully I'll get to fly my Waiex next year). We plan to camp in the general aviation camping area. I'm looking forward to the experience and getting to meet as many of you as possible.

Just a few weeks left now until AirVenture 2018! If you think you want to camp with us in "Camp Sonex" send me a note (if you haven't already done so) and I'll ensure we stake out enough room for everyone.

Isaac will be giving a forum talk similar to the one he presented at Sun N Fun. Come out and hear him relate his experience building on his Sonex project. The title of his talk is "Building a Homebuilt Project as a Teenager", and is scheduled for Wednesday at 2:30-3:45 in the Homebuilders Hangar.

Hey.. billy here. I rented a camper and will be in general camping area starting on Saturday. It’s just me and my 1 1/2 year old grandson. Still building but would like to visit and meet other builders. Can anyone visit the sonex homebuilt camping area? Thanx Billy sonex # 1735

Once you are inside the airshow, you can walk around all the planes that are camping. Camp Sonex has been near the warbird alley I believe.

We'll aim to establish "Camp Sonex" in the same place as last year, just west (i.e. away from the flight line) of the new Blue Barn and forums plaza, along Gallatin Ave. See the EAA map (link to pdf below) and it's in grid square "I-9" on page 2. We back up to the ditch, and that keeps the riff-raff out!

Hi all, I'm a long time lurker here but haven't pulled the trigger on a kit yet. Thinking a Waiex B with Aerovee Turbo. I'm coming up from TX for airventure and plan to come out to the "homecoming".... I reached out to Sonex and they said they don't do demo flights. Any attendees maybe willing to take a newbee up for a short hop?

Cheers!

Jeff, my mom, boys, and I would love to set up our tent at camp Sonex if there's room for us to join you all. We'll only be there the 27th-29th, but we'd love to meet everyone.
