Yep, great story. I worked with Jim Lawrence a while at Epps. I had no idea that he was Jake's inspiration.

Hi jake,
That was a very nice article. As a veteran also, i salute you for your service too.
How is your re-engine to a rotax coming along.? I see that there is a ring mount and a bed mount for the 912's . Someone on here was making a ring adapter to go on an aerovee mount for his 912. Sonex offers a bed mount for 912's .
Jake can you also tell us about you sealing of the canopy? Thats another thing i'd like to improve on mine. I'll look at spruce and vans to see what they offer for weatherstrip. . Would love to keep out any dew, rain , or wind noise.
Be safe and have fun!

Thank you for the positive comments. Here is a link on the Sonex website to the complete article as published in the EAA Sport Aviation Magazine February 2018 issue:

I will continue flying with the Aerovee for the foreseeable future. At some point I will install a Rotax 912 ULS to get a little extra HP and to enhance my ability to go on long cross country flights throughout the US, Canada, and the Caribbean. It is just taking a little longer to save up for a Rotax at $20,000 with accessories as other family priorities must also be addressed.

There are many benefits to the Aerovee. Like Mike Smith mentioned it is good to know your engine inside out and being able to identify and quickly fix absolutely everything on the engine with just a few tools. The parts for an Aerovee are very reasonably priced compared to the Rotax or a Lycomming or Continental.
