I brought this subject up in the yahoo forum shortly before Sonex posted their response. The quality of the new rivets doesn't even come close to the quality of the old rivets. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there is much we can do. Even the discount that Sonex is offering isn't much of a discount. They are offering "50%" off of the $.10 price, but the cost of the original rivets was only $6.80 per 100. How does that math add up? :(

Sonex note on new rivets

Not to defend Sonex, but what else did you expect? They didn't produce the rivets. I found their offer fair.

Hi Robbie,

I understand that there isn't much Sonex can do about their supplier, but don't blow smoke up my you know what and tell me that you're giving me a 50% discount when the price was never $.10 in the first place.

I don't believe the math is supposed to add up as an apples to apples comparison as they are 2 different companies .It would appear based on the 50% reduction in price that the new vendor sells their rivets for .10c a copy not 6.8c's (ccp42's)and we are therefore receiving a 50% savings.Sonex can't be expected to cover the cost of replacing the bad rivets (maybe thats why there cheaper)since the vendor wasn't willing to step up to the plate and make good on an inferior product that they sold to Sonex.Sonex's response was proper ."Drop the vendor"
I also feel this is a fair and respectable offer. If you can find a better or equal rivet for less than .05 cents then please let us know.

Hi Mike,

I don't have any hard feelings against Sonex and I don't expect them to refund anybody's money or exchange any rivets. I just find it hard to believe that the price of the new rivets is really $.10, especially rivets of lesser quality.

I can buy the same rivets that sonex offers at aircraft spruce for $.068 each and even cheaper from Jay Cee Rivets at $.053 each. Even the price for the new rivets in Sonex's web store is only $.07

I'm guess I just want to know where this $.10 figure comes from?

Fair enough, but since Sonex never said whom their new vendor is ,we will not likely find out.If it turns out to be Avex we can revisit this and give them a proper thrashing :x

Thought I would post a photo I shot this weekend - a closeup of one of the offending rivets.

I had around 8 of those on the CCC-42 rivets on the leading edges. Kerry suggested I use a punch and hammer to pound them back flush (worked on all but 2 or 3), then just Dremel the rest. Worked for me...

Mike

Thanks - I am not sure which method worries me more. Grinding near the skin or using a punch..... :-)
