Tachometer

Postby Arnieb » Tue Sep 12, 2017 7:45 pm

I just bought a completed 2006 Sonex with a Jabiru 3300 engine. The plane has only been flown 1 hour prior to me buying it. The problem I have is the tach isn't working the RPMs read zero the plane has a Grand Rapids EIS 4000. Does anyone have a clue what I should check ( the wiring looks good).

My experience with a completely different tach is that if it is picking up the pulses off the voltage regulator, I had to try different terminals until I found the set that worked. It was an educated guessing game.....and also involved DIP Switch settings in the tach itself. Fun stuff. (I use a VDO tach)

Check that the tach wire is connected to one of the two blue wires going between the alternator and the voltage regulator. You may need to try the other blue wire if the first is not working for you. Also, check the TachP/R setting in the EIS to make sure it is set to 6. Do you have the EIS manual?

Hope this helps,
