Postby WaiexN143NM » Thu Aug 03, 2017 11:09 pm

Hi all,
Very interesting reading in the ntsb report. Dowl pin hole and the oil passage hole on the force one bearing on the crankshaft. Go to the docket link and click on the imbeded pics. Didnt know this was a fatal. Pilot passed a few days after accident. Only 24 ounces of oil in engine? See www.kathrynsreport.com July 29. 2017.

Another interesting article is july 28 2017 www.kathrynsreport.com. Is the seaplane accident lake amphib during airventure. Dramatic pictures. Good reading. No flaps deployed on takeoff.

If anyone can get some direct links , thanks!
Up at lake superior at the family cabin after airventure. Been raining alot. Im catching up on my reading. Heading back to sunny CA. Tuesday. Good to see everyone at OSH17. Be safe.

I made the exact same mistake on my first engine build, incorrectly aligned the oil feed hole with the dowel pin.
My engine seized on the first ground run and the mistake cost me a new case and F1 bearing...
However embarrassing it was, I documented my mishap on my log hoping others would learn from my mistake, I'll put the links here again:

If there is a lesson to be learned it's this:

According to the pilot, shortly after the engine failure, he initiated a descending, left turn, in order to avoid an airport fence. Multiple witnesses, located at the airport, observed the airplane enter a steep left bank and rapidly descending as it pitched down. Subsequently, the airplane impacted terrain in a nose down, left wing low attitude.

No matter what you're going to land on it's probably better than stalling and spinning into the ground.
