ONX-L04 Brake Line Attachment

Postby John Usher » Wed Aug 02, 2017 10:48 am

On Onex plans page ONX-L04, view B-B states as an option to "tape" the cable housing to the gear legs.
For those who have, how did you attach your brake lines to your gear legs?
If possible, a picture would really be worth a few hundred words in this case.
Thanks in advance!

John, I bent some .016 2024 around a piece of brake cable to make several "anchors" to hold the brake cable. I then drilled and tapped the gear leg to secure these "anchors". Send me your email and I will take a photo the next time I get to the hanger.

Hi,
This is how I did it, the brake line doesn't sit below the leg but behind it, less drag!
I also used low profile nuts instead of these.

John,
I used zip-ties (saw that solution on a crop duster gear leg) for a temp hold til I get around to upgrading my mechanical brakes to hydraulic. Then I will secure with the proper attachments.

Not a Onex, but on my Sonex I used duct tape that gets replaced every few years. That's for either the cable brake lines or the hydraulic brake lines. Cable ties, if in contact with the aluminum gear fairings, will cut right through them after a while for the same reason they shouldn't be used on an engine mount.
