Well, Mike. It's amazing what paint and fiberglass filler will cover up...:)
The airplane in the hangar is an old Quickie 1. I brought it back from Nevada with hopes of restoring it but after a couple of years I determined that I would rather begin from scratch. There may be an electric version flying by next year but it may not be produced as a kit. It's a design that is on my "list of five"...Kolb/Waiex/Pitts/Quickie/Mosquito helicopter.
After I have those five, I'll just retire and use my time to try to keep them all airworthy...:)
The pushrod fairings were made using a mold used on a local Waiex (0049). The molds were made by slicing a PVC pipe at an angle in the shape of the fairing and mounting it in wood. Then the metal was simply pounded in with a soft hammer. Did it seem like overkill at the time? Yes. Did they turn out good...yes.
Had I done them myself, they would have looked a lot worse or I would have bought them somewhere...:)
