Yes, Mike, I know what the FAA is saying..........but the last time it was the DOT that held it up (forever) and this time it's the OMB. The good news is that BasicMed goes into effect on July 15th no matter what the feds now say or do. However, if this current effort slides, it isn't helpful to the many of us who already have doctor's appointments in early May.

Yes, I'm worried too. My appointment is for the 4th. My doctor has seen the preliminary form and said he will have no problem signing it. I just need the form! My appointment is less than two weeks away.

My biggest problem is that I have transition training for my new build, an RV-14, scheduled for the following week. I can't fly the 14 under sport pilot rules like my Sonex, so I have to have a signed form by the 10th of May. If they are a few days late, I can get the form to my doctor after the exam and have him sign it but it can't be latter than the 9th for me.

Getting nervous.

do you have to be current to get the transition training? I know you can't act as PIC without your medical, but your instructor/transition guy can if he's current.

That's a good question. I believe I need to have my medical to get my high performance endorsement, which I need because the engine is 210 hp (I might be wrong about the medical, so I'm checking into it). Otherwise I wouldn't because my insurance just says I need to be signed off by a CFI in the 14. They aren't requiring any hours as PIC.

Thanks, it had been so long since I looked at any regs for this type of thing, that I couldn't remember what requirements apply.

Regardless, now I should be good to go as PIC once my doctor signs the forms. I took the online course already and I just need to fill in the data block about my doctor to check off that box.

I downloaded and filled in Section 2 and printed it.
I scheduled an appointment with a local AME who is willing to perform the BasicMed exam per the checklist.

Consider this:

Logged onto AOPA and took the online course....after completing the course (60 minutes give or take) with a > 85% grade was required to provide the examiners info including his Doctor cert #.
My scheduled appointment is 5/08 so I do not yet have that information.

The AOPA course requires that information, prior to completing/certificating/printing the certificate - I have to repeat the course after my BasicMed exam. (Delta Alpha Mike November!!!...for the military Vets among us.)

No complaints here. Just telling you my experience

My personal Dr. said he would perform the checklist exam...except the vision checklist items which he would not sign off because his firm does not have the vision checking capability.
