And, the Onex is 80% of the Sonex, so the reduced frontal area plus the same HP should result in better performance. Weight isn't everything.
The 620 lb Sonex was bare metal, with a single center stick, no tail tips, and a very basic instrument panel, with a 2200 jabiru. How many Sonex do you think you can find that have an empty weight anywhere close to that? Every one I have seen the weight and balance papers of have been in the neighborhood of 670 lbs, and some even heavier than that. The Onex weight of 600 is much more realistic. The "real world" difference is in the neighborhood of 50 lbs, and usually more, which is much more significant.
