Anyone post any fuel burn information for the Turbo

Was given a red cube and installed it with the GRT Sport and EIF, it appears to be very accurate after test flow rates and GPH on the ground and a few test flights.

Have about 70 hours on the turbo/engine and it seems tonight it burned 8.0 to 9.0 GPH at 35" MAP at 9,000 MSL, Field Altitude is 6820 MSL and DA was 8200 at take off, any leaner and my EGT climb over 1400, EGT are running right at 1325 to 1375 when set.

CHT don't ever seem to have a temp issue and run around 325 to 350.

Just interested to see what everyone else is seeing.

If you're running 35 inches MAP your fuel burn is probably pretty close. If you back it off to 30 inches you should see the fuel burn drop to about 5.5 gph.

Went out for about an hour today 9000 MSL at 30" MAP fuel burn was 7.2 GPH 127 MPH indicated.
Using a Ed Sturba 54 x 50 climb prop, going to change it out to a cruise prop and run a few tests.
71.4 hours on the turbo and still impressed with the performance.

Carl,

For what it's worth, I would normally see numbers not far off from what you reported at 30" MAP. While flying around 3000' MSL, if I set the power at 30" MAP, I would normally see 3075 RPM, 350 F CHT's when leaned to around 1150 F EGT's, and I would get 135 mph indicated (summer) to 144 mph indicated (winter), all while burning 7.0-7.2 GPH. Temperature made a big difference in performance (my engine loves cold, dense air!) Not to say mine was set up correctly, but that's what I always saw! That was while turning a Prince P-Tip 54 X 50 prop.

At the same time, if I wanted to really cut the fuel burn, I could throttle back to 27-28" and lean things out a lot more. If I did that, fuel flow would drop considerably. I could run 27" MAP, 2850 RPM, and settle in around 120-125 mph indicated while burning 5.5-6 GPH.

Recently I flew to Clinton Mo. from Peoria IL. Flight was 2:37 not including taxi ,run up. Fuel burn was right at 6.1 gph. Climb was to 6500 msl and cruise power set to 30.8 inches map 3060 rpm 142 mph/true. A lower altitude would have probably burned a little less for climb but should have been similar for fuel burn in cruise. I flight plan for 6.5 gph for a conservative margin on trips.

I also fly with a RedCube and have the following readings last weekend:

DALT - 5,500 / MAP - 33.5" / GPH 7.04 / IAS - 142mph
DALT - 3,800 / MAP - 28.8" / GPH 5.76 / IAS - 124mph

I agree with Mike as the burn at 35" does not deliver a lot more speed for the excess fuel. If it is a short flight and you need to get somewhere, then it's fine. But on a longer trip, 28-30.5" is the optimal for the speed, especially above 8,500 where you can get TAS north of 145mph at 30" MAP on <6gph.

Last weekend I was playing with my Aeroinjector and found that a richer than 'factory' setting has some descent advantages if you have a vernier mixture control and red cube. I was able to keep the CHT lower [<380 degrees] on climb (900 fpm @ max gross) and high speed cruise (33-35" MAP) but burns were well north of 9.8gph on a max gross climb. But, the downside (besides extra burn), is that it takes vigilance or you will run too rich and fowl a plug pretty quick.

For colder days I don't find it advantageous, but will likely add a little more fuel for the hot summer days when we take our long trips at max gross. I have found myself climbing at 400fpm to keep CHT down. Now I can get to cruise alt much sooner and let the turbo do its thing...create speed at 6gph.
