Darick,
Your stick will have to demonstrate full range of motion between all the stops. The DAR or FAA inspector will check to see that it has free movement between all the stops and that you have a full range of deflection for your elevator and ailerons. If you ever or a subsequent owner ever brings it to an A&P for a condition inspections, the A&P will also check for full range of motion and deflection.
In practical terms, you would also hate to be practicing stall recoveries and have the stick get bound up underneath the instrument panel.
