Safe distance from exhaust

Postby Darick » Wed Jan 04, 2017 5:39 pm

Guys, the oil separator return line (Russel Proflex SS hose) is 3/4" from the wrapped exhaust. Is this too close? Do I need to add a heat shield? I couldn't find a max temp spec for the hose.

Don't mistake the oil cooler hose for the oil separator line. The separator line is a little hard to see but it makes a 180 out of the front of the engine and goes back along side, right next to the engine.

For the oil line I think you're fine. But adding fire sleeve to all your fuel and oil lines is not a bad idea for safety reasons. It would add another layer against heat as well.

Looks just like mine and I have had no issues.

You might want to reconsider the separator line though. It looks like a solid line that isn't supported along the side of the engine. The vw vibrates alot. A fatigue crack in that line while flying could empty the whole crank case of oil in short order.
