Question on the root rib "reinforcement angle". For each of the 8, the plan states:

"Make from SNX-Z02-03 Angle Stock
Use full size drawing as pattern"

I assume that this plan sheet IS the full size drawing to be used as the pattern, but I don't see the height of the flange called out anywhere, or the bend radius like they are for all the other rib gussets.

I must be overlooking something obvious.

Also, I am just trying understand and wrap my head around why the root rib is fit only after all the other ribs have been installed, and why the wing structure needs to be square at that point. Also why the aft root rib is fit first, then the forward rib.

I don't have the plans in front of me. I do remember that on the classic A model the root ribs are not parallel to the rest of the ribs. So you rivet on the rest of the ribs, true up the wing, then drill in the root ribs. Also, because of the dihedral angle, you tip the root ribs to fit the skins. You may need to jam the aft rib more aft or the forward rib more forward for a nice tight fit, then you transfer holes from the angles/skin to the rib.

I kinda get it, I guess I'll see why once I do it.

But I am unable to find any detail about the flange on the reinforcement angle. The material it is cut from (Z02-03) is really wide angle.

If you look at the Z drawing it will give you the bend radius of 1/16". You could make the flanges from flat stock and just bend the small flange on the one edge. Being the drawings are full size, I just measured them and made them close. You will cut away a lot of material on some of the parts if you are a kit builder. Kits have oversized flanges and use it in many applications to minimize how many different angle pieces are needed in the kit.

They just don't give the height of the flange of the piece anywhere that I can see.

The drawing has a side view just above the gusset you are working on. Looks like they measure out to 5/32".

My parts were premade, which explains why I was so clueless. The dimension is missing but the callout to use the drawing as a full size template makes sense.

I assume you don't have the matched hole parts.

Those angles aren't going to give me the same "fits" as the gussets on ribs 1-5, which required a precise bend to line up the holes in both the ribs and gussets.

As far as the root rib goes, because it is on an angle, it acts as a truss to keep the rest of the structure from turning into a parallellagram. For those of you without matched holes, you get to align the structure, then drill the root rib to the attach angles to keep the whole thing in place. I, on the other hand, already have all holes drilled from the factory and must trust to luck that the wing will come out square.
