Flap Handle Interference on Spar Tunnel

Postby Direct C51 » Thu Sep 08, 2016 11:45 pm

I am at the point of installing my flap handle and detent angle and am having some interference. With the detent angle 7 7/8" below the top longeron per the plans, My flap handle won't go all the way in to the full flap detent before hitting the front of the spar tunnel. I would have to move my detent angle 1/4" to allow the flap handle to enter the full flap detent. Has anyone else had this problem? Everything checks out as far as my installation and dimensions go. I'm thinking I might just have to mount my detent angle 1/4" forward.

Randy,
I have center controls so not quite the same situation. Still, I mounted my flap detent angle such that it just hits or about hits the corner of the tunnel at full flap. That is probably what you want to do too.

So...........This is Randy from Area 51%.
Is there also a Randy @ Direct C51? If there ARE two of us, I assume the other is also very clever and extremely good looking.
Thanks for the heads-up in either case. I've installed the detent, but wasn't aware there might be an interferance issue with the handle. I'll keep my eyes open for it. My control sub-kit is supposed to be delivered next week.

No Randy you are safe, I'm actually Nate. I think Bryan has replied to me as Randy before too, no worries, I've been called worse.

I'm ready to mount the detent and I think I've decided to just go forth with mounting it 1/4" forward. I was hoping to keep it as far back as possible so I didn't have to reach forward to grab the flap and brake handles, but so be it.
