I thought I would start a thread to see who all is planning on attending this year. You all need to watch this awesome video:

I'll be up there one way or another...obviously I'm hoping to be in the Waiex but we'll see if I can get Phase 1 finished. Otherwise I'll be in the Express or driving...I missed last year and will NOT miss this year!!

Believe me I'm trying! Hopefully I can get some hours in this weekend. I'm trying to get to 10 hours or more ( I figure if something bad happens it will be by then) and after that I'll try to start flying for longer durations to really eat up the time. I just did a "mini" condition inspection yesterday to check the mixer, tail assembly, and all other control components and didn't find a thing.

When you get up there Kip, are you parking with all the Sonexes there by the company display? I'm hoping I can park my plane there and then camp next to the Express in HBC. As of now I think we're considering maybe trying to get there early Saturday, weather permitting.

Hello All,

I hope everyone is having a nice summer thus far. As I look at the calendar I see we're basically at T minus 2 weeks until the beginning of Oshkosh Airventure 2012! Words can't describe how excited I am to make the trip this year, either in my Waiex, my fathers homebuilt, or if nothing else by driving. Obviously my first choice is my Waiex, so I've been doing some initial planning with that in mind.

I'm not sure if anyone is coming in from the east coast but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has recommended fuel stops in the greater Chicago area. Right now I'm thinking that I may stop at either KIKK (Greater Kankakee) or C09 (Morris, IL) which allows me to stay right outside of the Mode C veil around Chicago. From my home base in Ohio I'm predicting a 2.5 hour flight as leg 1, then around a 1.5 hour flight to get me to OSH. I'm not sure when this will happen but it could be as early as Friday night, but dawn on Saturday is more likely. Otherwise it will be whenever the weather allows.

I know Kip is in, but is anyone else going to fly or drive up? I'd really like to make it for the Open House if able.

I hope to see you all there!!

Mike, I'll suggest stopping in Aurora on the way around Chicago. I tried to fuel up at the self-serve pumps last year but they were INOP so I went to the FBO and the manager welcomed me like I was in a jet...covered parking, red carpet and all. He even gave me the self-serve (competitors) price on fuel. Some folks know that when they take care of the little guy, he may come back there one day with something bigger.

I'll have 2400 miles under the wings before I get to OSH so you should look at your trip as a easy hop...

Without any weather or mechanical problems, I'll see you on Sunday...!

EDIT...It looks like KARR is about 1.5 miles inside the mode "C" veil... :?

The last time I flew home in the Express (two summers ago) I stopped at KARR for a quick fill up and loved it. Really nice FBO and great people...I would certainly stop there again if I wasn't such a cheap skate and installed a transponder

When are you starting out on your trip Kip? I hope we both make it without issues! You've been to Sonexes Open House before, correct? I think it's Sunday...if I make it Saturday can I taxi over to join everyone? I am certainly planning on parking at the Sonex parking area regardless then setting up a tent by the Express in HBC.

Yes, Mike. Just make a sign for the SONEX FACTORY for the marshallers and taxi on over on Sunday. In the afternoon, we'll all "mass-taxi" over to the Sonex parking front and center.

Then, on Monday night we're back at the factory for some free beer...:)
