Hi all,
We are all thinking of everyone involved. I think that plane is a aerovee powered ac. Hope the pilots can at least get home soon. Wow.

From Dave's wife:
"I just talked to Dave. he's doing okay, not in too much pain at this point, but his elbow is hurting some. He had a couple of cuts that needed stitching there. They are going to release him in the morning most likely in scrubs. The people from Sonex are going to pick him up at the hospital, bring him back to the airport so he can talk with the FAA and can get the Jeep. It's a short drive to the hotel."

I have not heard anything about the instructor's condition. Has anyone else?

I have heard that they were both listed in "Good" condition. However, that is not from a great source, so hopefully it is true.

Good thing the Sonex/Waiex is a stout little plane. I don't think my old Hawk would have done nearly as well.

Hi all,
Hope the two gentleman are doing better. I worked for the fbo in fdl when i was in high school. I know exactly where that accident happened. My guess is they didnt even see the power lines. Thats too bad, otherwise could have landed on the road. After this settles out the question is why did this happen? Again hoping for speedy recovery's for these two men.
Kudos to the first responders, and the speedy response from FDL fire rescue and sheriffs dept.

Michael,

Leaving the speculation part of matters alone; do you know which engine N12YX was equipped with?

It has the AeroVee installed. No turbo, just a stock one.

Hello SonexBuilders.net,

There were some tense moments here at the Sonex Factory as we dealt with the accident involving Waiex N12YX yesterday. Safety of the pilots was our primary concern, and we are extremely happy to report that they are both okay. Customer Dave Plathe and Sonex contract CFI Tom Helm (also a Onex builder) were involved in the accident during a transition training flight. They both sustained a few broken ribs and other non-life-threatening injuries, as reported in this discussion thread, and are both expected to be released from their respective hospitals today and tomorrow.

We are working closely with the pilots and NTSB to determine the root cause and contributing factors leading to the accident. We are not speculating about a root cause at this time, and we strongly encourage all of you to refrain from doing so as-well. Cause can only be determined via thorough investigation, which is well underway. Sonex Aircraft is being made a party to the investigation by the NTSB as we work together to determine a cause.

Regards, to all,
