Rear Spar Shear Angle Interference With Trim Spring

Postby Direct C51 » Sun Jul 03, 2016 11:56 pm

I am using the Aeroconversions Pitch Trim System on my Sonex. The instructions for adding the rear spring attach eyebolt on the fuselage crosstie do not account for the SNX F-03-08 Shear Angle. The shear angle and rear spar carry through aren't illustrated in the instructions. There will be interference with the rear spring attachment reinforcement plate as depicted in the pictures below (I have hastily added the red graphics to indicate where the shear angle will interfere. Do the Waiex plans account for this? I feel like I am missing something because the instructions seem to indicate that there is no shear angle or rear spar carry through in that area.

Can anyone with a Waiex (or Sonex with dial a trim) please post a picture of their rear spar carry through, shear angle, forward bottom fuselage cross tie, and rear trim spring. This should all be able to be included in one picture. Thanks. It has been a week with no solution from Sonex. This should be a pretty well known fix, as everyone with dial a trim added to a Sonex has had to contend with.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately I already installed the eye bolt and reinforcement plate on the fuselage crosstie. Maybe I will remove the plate and try to mount it to the back side of the crosstie so that I don't have four 1/8 and one 3/16 unused holes in my crosstie. Did Sonex really mess the instructions up that badly? Surely they had other plans for that shear angle?

I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS INSTALL FOR A COUPLE DAYS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO BEAT THE PHYSICS OF TWO ITEMS OCCUPYING THE SAME SPACE AT THE SAME TIME. I GAVE UP AFTER REALIZING ONLY CASPER THE GHOST COULD ACCOMPLISH THIS FEET. AWAITING ADVICE FROM SONEX. THINK I WILL FAB A PIECE ON THE "FORWARD SIDE" THEN ATTACH THE EYEBOLT. JUST SAW THIS POST AND DEJA VU. I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THANKS ALL.

I never saw a solution to this for a project with the trim spring mount built according to the plans. I installed the week this past weekend and had to come up with a solution to the shear web interference problem. I didn't want to change what I had already built on the previous plans page so I came up with this in the picture.
