Naming my plane

Postby Gripdana » Mon May 16, 2016 8:42 am

I went out to Monroe airport yesterday and when I announced my take off a guy in the pattern said he thought my plane was a roll of "aluminum foil"! I had to laugh. It kind of fits in a funny way. It is an aluminum airfoil. So I think I will call my Sonex "Aluminum Foil".

Aluminum Foil- I like it.

I have no name for my Waiex but I have one for my Hummelbird. Years ago I was lamenting the home resistance to me going out and spending $600 on aluminum. My buddy thought it was funny and suggested I smash a bunch of beer cans flat and hammer weld them together. "You could call it the Hummelbud!" I have "Bud" painted on the nose.

I dig it!

Very similar to the way my lime green VW Microbus got it's name. A friend said it reminded them of a piece of a particular apple candy and from that point on it became known as "The Jolly Rancher".

With only the tailcone and tail group complete-ish, we call ours "Not Chett" when people inquire about the completion status. We will remove the "Not" after first flight.

We almost went with "Full Metal Jacket".
"Flight Risk" was our third choice.

Mine is named SNAFU

My artist friend just finished drawing my nose art last night, now i just have to have it printed to vinyl and stick it on the plane! I am very happy with how it turned out!
