Sonex distractions!

Postby Sonex1243 » Sat Jun 18, 2016 11:21 pm

Dug this old girl out of preservation and flew it today after flying relatives around in the beech sierra for 1.5 hours. Strange seeing fuselage side panels covered up with "stuff". Hopefully get back to the Sonex build shortly, having withdrawals already.

Ken,
Good to see your efforts to let me keep my tenuous lead on my Waiex build. I see you are not into that newfangled electric stuff. Though you face distractions I think you will find aluminum keeps well.

I don't think I could catch up with you Bryan, I just have a set of wings and tail section. Haven't jumped to electrics yet, I like the big "gassers"!

The distractions are continuing, this time for glider towing! Seems I am one of two still current in the wing and summer is here! I did manage to get the fuse side access and rudder exit holes cut and cleaned up. Also managed to get the 14* bends done on the forward ends.

I'm building a home in at an airpark with an active glider club. Thinking of becoming a tow pilot for them and getting my glider rating too. They have a Pawnee. So just need to get my high performance endorsement and a checkout.

Glider towing and flying is a blast Jon, do it if you can. We use a C182. I can say though, towing is a workout in itself, especially during pattern tows in which the glider releases on the down wind and you have to beat it back, drop the rope, land and get taxi'd back for the next one as the glider is already landed. The 3,000 AGL tows give you a little break in between and you get to do steep spirals etc. to get back in a hurry.

I have a bunch of time towing gliders in the pawnee and still miss it dearly. Towing is proficiency flying at its finest with a real mission to keep it interesting. Pawnees have lots of drag and are forgiving machines. Go for it.

Well, the distractions seem to keep coming! Glider season is in full swing, but, I still am managing to get work done on the aft fuse sides!
