Anson Flap Stops

Postby Waiex 49 » Fri Jun 17, 2016 6:48 pm

Today I finished the installation of my new flap stops made by Peter Anson (http://www.ansoneng.com) and wanted to give a quick report.

I never had a problem with the stock flap stops, but I did notice the flaps were somewhat "wiggly" against the stops and appeared that they could move a bit against the stops in flight. I think this may have had something to do with my troubles getting the plane to fly hands off.

With all the other work I have done on the plane I thought "why not" and removed the stock flap stops and installed four (two per flap) adjustable flap stops. The flaps were rigged in accordance with the Sonex drawings and the stops were adjusted accordingly and safety wired in position.

I have yet to fly the plane with these new flap stops, but I can say that the flaps are very solid against the new stops and not at all "wiggly" like before. I am hoping this will improve stability and allow me to rig the plane for hands off straight and level flight.

The parts from Anson Engineering are very nicely made and Peter has been very good to work with.

I also fitted these flap stops. My plane fly's hands off but I didnt like the way the flaps rode higher then the ailerons in flight. They were an easy fix to the problem.
