Total Time On Sonex

Postby Tony Lewis » Mon May 23, 2016 12:51 pm

On a local flight this morning I landed with 1,500.1 total time on my Sonex N447XL.
I just wonder how many others have more time?
My first flight was on 23 April 2003

Tony,

That is absolutely fantastic - congratulations and well done. I would be amazed if your aren't the most senior sonex driver. Certainly, at my 80 odd hours, you kick my arse/ass.

What engine are you up to now? Still 3300 in the front?

Tony,

Do you have any lessons learned having amassed 1,500 hours that you could share with us? Where there any maintenance items or areas where wear caused you any concerns?

Did you have an Aerovee for the first 800 hours? If so, how has maintenance and overall satisfaction compared between the Jabiru and the Aerovee?

I have a little over 80 hours on my Aerovee powered Sonex and am looking forward to putting on many more over the coming years.

Thanks,

Jake

Congratulations Tony! Thanks for sharing that inspiring milestone. I can't wait to hear you answer Jake's questions. I love that you have been enjoying your Sonex for 13 years now and I hope you are planning on flying and enjoying your Sonex for many more years.

Total Time On Sonex

What a milestone! I am very curious if any other long time pilots/builders/owners have anything near that?

That is a great accomplishment.

I don't think I will ever catch you. You've done over 100 hours a year for 13 years. I just crossed 390 this weekend, 98% of it in 5 years. At my pace I won't reach your milestone until 2036.

Makes me wonder why I'm building a second airplane! (Well, we all know why, it's just too much fun)

Congrats and thanks for the update.

Tony, you may be one of the few Sonex fliers who has spent more time flying than building. Only another 1750 hours and I should reach that target! Well done.

At Rio Linda, Eric told me his Red Devil (no longer owns) is around 2600 hours. I think he had the engine done around 1700 hours. Flys the heck out of it.
