Thanks Chris! let me look at my case when it arrives. Did you have to shim your starter? where and how much?

Thanks! :D

I'm not one of the ones that had a problem, but I doubt shimming the starter would be acceptable.

Joe, I did not have any hole at all, I ground down the casing till there was enough room for the drive to come all the way out. There still is no hole and seems to work fine.
I agree with Chris, I would not shim the starter.

OK, John and Chris! I may have nothing to worry about. The heads and case arrived this PM. the case does indeed have a hole in it, and it looks like it has been 'worked some already. There is evidence that a crank somewhere was swung inside the case as lots of material has been removed for clearences. I shall check further for sure. There is some dremell work to do on the outside of the case as it is rough in places, and the flashing on the heads between fins and such needs removed.

Now I have lots to do...finish wing install and set them aside. Begin engine clean9ing.

One other thing...paint. I am going to paint the iron cylinders high heat black. I do want to paint the case for corosion protection, but I have seen others with no paint. your opinion on case paint? (Ha...I still have some gold engine paint from my O-300A rebuild and I am thinking that!!)

Thanks much again!!
