corrosion protection - building a Waiex

Postby 1labelloj » Fri Mar 11, 2016 12:46 pm

I have decided I would like to apply some corrosion protection in places where two parts overlap. I do plan to finish the outside as polished aluminum so I do not want to use a product that will seep through to the outside skin.

I was wondering what builders are using. Can I use a product from a local hardware store like one of the Rustoleum primers? Is there a specific product ingrediance I should look for?

I use SEM self-etching primer. I know others that have used different brands of self etching primer they bought from NAPA auto parts. I don't think I would use rustoleum as it is oil based and softer. The SEM dries thin, hard, and is durable.

Uh oh, here it comes!

All kidding aside, chances are that you will be getting a lot of biased opinions about what to use, not exactly scientific evidence of the best thing to use.

True, I mostly use nothing. I made a few parts from 7075-T6 and those are primed.

Hi all,
When building our waiex, we primed everything with duplicolor self etch primer (green) from kragen / O'Rielly auto parts. Really flows well no runs , dries fast and really sticks. Wiped everything down with acetone prior.
