AeroVee Parts?

I feel so stupid. In order to buy a gasket for my engine I have to know what year, make, and model car it is in.
What is it? The lacal auto stores have the parts but they can't find them without this information.

Depends on what gasket. VW never made a 2180 for their cars so some stuff is only available aftermarket. For regular stiff like oil pan gaskets tell the auto store it is for a 1970 beetle. That should cover most of it.

"That should cover most of it". I don't mean to be a wise guy but my wife and I thought this was funny and I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes you just get that stupid stare from people when you tell them "it's in an airplane". Often I refrain from even saying anything about the Sonex. So thank you for the tip "1970 Beetle". :)

Have you tried looking thru the online parts catalogues of the VW performance shops. SCAT comes to mind. I think all VW type 1 cases are the same, as are the valve covers. Not sure which one you need.

How about ordering from Aeroconversions? I have an Aerovee and want to make sure I have the parts that are specific to the engine. I also want to support the company. Even though many parts may not be made in the USA they are a small american company.

If they got their shipping costs down to a reasonable level I'm sure there would be more people that would order from aeroconversions.

The last few time they have shipped me parts Flat Rate USPS. When I order I request it of it can fit. But if you are outside the United States I guess the point is moot.

Shipping has always been cheap from them as far as my experience goes. Just got a couple bellcranks from Sonex. Shipping was less than $2 to Georgia.

As far as gaskets and such. About the only "custom gasket" you'll need to replace with any regularity would be the valve cover gaskets. The oil sump and valve cover gaskets are probably what you'll use the most. Just order like 10 sets and you'll be good for a while. While you're placing that order, just get any engine gasket set (German preferably as the rubber is better) and throw it on a shelf somewhere to have a spare of everything.

A friend up here n Ontario ordered the AeroVee engine, baffles, aero injector at one time. By the time the shipping, taxes, and brokerage fees were attached, it was more than 9000. Cross border shipping is a nightmare here.
