Los Angeles to Atlanta

Postby Gripdana » Fri Feb 26, 2016 7:13 pm

I am flying my Sonex from KWJF to KLZU on Sunday the 28th. Planning on 2 or 3 days travel. My first over night stop is planed for Amarillo or somewhere near there. Can anyone suggest an airport that I can camp at over night? My route of flight is KWJF KEED KINW KAEG KTDW KMLC KCKM KLZU. If anyone has any other advice about the airports I plan on stopping I would appreciate it. Also if there is a "better" place to stop that would help.

I've stopped at KBGD on my way to San Antonio. Not sure if. They allow camping but super friendly staff and crew car. And cheap gas as the refinery is next to the field.

Have a great trip Dana! It look like your route takes you about 60 mile south of my home field KFYV. Let me know if you need anything on your journey.

Hope the trip went well. Currently in the middle of an annual on #600 or I'd fly up and say hi. When you headed back?

I will be in the Atlanta area until September.

Here is an update on my trip. Day one Lancaster California to Tucumcari New Mexico 828sm 8.25 hours flight time. Then Tucumcari to Tupelo Mississippi
850sm 8.5 hours flight time. I am now holding in Tupelo due to weather. There is a cold front coming in fast and thunderstorms building along the route. I can see clear sky's to the east which is tempting. I can see how "get there itis" is a killer. The temptation is strong. So here I sit until tomorrow. I keep reminding myself. "It is better to be down here wishing I was up there instead of being up there wishing I were down here"

Thanks for the update, Dana. No need to rush. This weather will blow through and we'll have some warm temperatures right behind it.

Hopefully we can meet later in the week...
