intake couplers

Greetings... I'm thinking to replace my rubber intake couplers while I've got things apart, just wondered if anyone has found acceptable replacements. Thinking of 2" sections of 1.5" i.d. silicone hose, not sure if it would be gasoline resistant. For the couple of millimeters that are actually exposed to the fuel flow. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Check Jeggs and Summit Racing. They carry silicon intake hoses of all sizes. I've replaced a couple on my Jabiru.

Yes. I bought a pair and they work nicely. One does have to be very careful about the materials that will be in contact with fuel. Hoses may look alike, but may have very different compositions.

Sorry, Sonex sells the 2" sections that couple the intake runners from the manifold to the heads (six on a 3300)? I do find that Sonex's 'catalogue' of available separate bits and pieces leaves something to be desired...

Just a quick follow-up: I bought a 12" piece of 'heavy duty' straight radiator hose 1.25" i.d. at a local NAPA, about $10. Cut into 2" sections on my bandsaw. Perfect.

Careful, radiator hose is typically not fuel/oil resistant. The fuel/air mixture is likely to make short work of it if the material is not rated for fuel.

I agree with Ryan.

What will probably happen in using radiator hose that is not meant for carrying fuel is that it will start to crack and flake on the inner layers. These flakes of dried rubber will then flow into your combustion chamber and gum up your valves which will then lead to burnt valves which will then lead to broken valves which will then lead to blown cylinders. Then we will all read the NTSB report and shake our heads in wonder...

So is saving a couple of bucks on a cheap hose worth it?

If you want to buy the same stuff sonex supplies in the kits it is fuel filler hose not radiator hose. It is the same hose that goes from the filler neck to your gas tank in the car. Napa sells it by the foot.
