oil cooler question

Postby Johns » Sun Feb 21, 2016 4:03 pm

Hi everyone, I need to change the oil cooler on the Aerovee. I did not put the original one on, so is there a recommended one or do I just go to the parts store?

Is there anything wrong with the current one? Just curious.

If you haven't already, download a copy of the Aerovee manual:
http://www.aeroconversions.com/support/ ... Manual.pdf

The manual specifies:

Bottom mount:
Oil Cooler (Jeg's P/N 130-70265)

Top mount:
Oil Cooler for 1971 or later T1 or T2 VW engine (such as CB Performance part number 1727)

If you need a bottom mount oil cooler drop me a PM. I have one in the box, never opened.

Hi ya'll,

I'll be working on this in the next few months (woot!). Is the sonex recommendation of "CB Performance part number 1727" what pretty much everyone is using for the top oil cooler? I assume yes, but before firing off an order I thought I'd check.

That's the one I used. Cools as well or better than the bottom mount I had before.

It's been my experience that the seals will leak before the oil cooler does on the cars. Get good German (OE quality) seals.

To expand a little on mounting the top mount oil cooler.....the little rubber seals I received with my AeroVee kit are quite thick, with an approx. 1/8" wider middle 'ring' around the circumference. I've yet to try bolting down the cooler with these seals but it looks like they would make the cooler body sit proud of the cooler adaptor plate? Have I missed something here, or is that how they should be?

Thanks in anticipation
