Aerobatic aileron (SNX-W26) skin tip trimmed correctly??

Postby Sonex1243 » Thu Feb 18, 2016 12:17 am

Trimmed the right aileron skin tip and was wondering, after measuring 4 times before cutting, if this sight picture looks correct for the bottom skin cut. I measured the top cut line from the top skin edge to 2 37/64" at the trailing edge as depicted and the bottom line from the front view skin edge to 3 19/64", connected angled line across front face, then connected that line across the bottom to the previous 2 37/64" line at the trailing edge. Does this sound / look right :?

The dotted line would be a straight / square 3 19/64" line which would be way off at the trailing edge.

Ken,
I don't have the plans in front of me. Still I don't remember any lines on the aileron tip being square to the chord line. Did you expect one to be? Check the print again.

Hi Peter, I tried an original picture , but, it was kicked back. I normally use the postimage.org site. Is there a better way to post larger pictures, like resizing the original somehow?

Bryan, I initially thought that bottom line was square and drew it as such. Caught it on the 2nd+ measurement verifications since it wouldn't line up at the trailing edge mark leading me to believe it was wrong! Re-marked line and cut to line up at trailing edge.

As a sanity check, I also set the skin across the right wing hinge / spar (fiberglass tip not fit yet) and it tapers right / aligns with top skin, but, I will need to do a little more trimming to get that angle and bottom edge to line up with the rear spar taper and lower skin line before fitting the tip rib.

Just to answer your question on image hosting: http://imgur.com is a better hosting site. They will also nicely provide scaled image URLs you can use (small, med, large).

Here's a pic of mine. It's not the same camera angle as yours. I don't have plans in front of me, but I do feel like the cut on the bottom skin does angle out slightly.

Thanks Bryan;
Looking at your cuts and Ryan's, I have done mine correctly. A picture goes a long way in clearing up confusion of the dimensions and angles. Thanks for the help :oops:
