"H" frame under the seat, is riveted. I've seen this piece installed at two different times, before and after the wing rigging. I'd like to wait until after unless there is something I'm overlooking. I did a test fit to make sure I could fit it in with all the pieces riveted together as in the picture.



I must be addicted to polishing. What started out as "just cleaning this", turned out to be a Nuvite "S" polish job. It's the trim tab control lever.

I can actually relate (from non-airplane projects). That lever needs to be matched with a figured walnut handle, riveted on, and stained and varnished....

That's what I am missing. Have caved walnut stick grip and mahogany rails under the top fuselage angles to protect shoulders, but needs that finishing touch. Bit of polished wood in otherwise stark interior does give it a bit of flavor of an old British sports car. :-)

Regarding old English sports cars, I reckon that the Sonex is the aeronautical equivalent of the Lotus 7, and like that car it should be bare and simple, light and fast.

Not sure if this will come out on the correct thread, but regarding cool English sports car interiors....I have a block of New Zealand Kauri wood, dug up from a North Island swamp, where the tree was originally knocked down by a tsunami about 60,000 years ago. Considering the original tree was probably 30 metres or more high, similar to a western US giant redwood, my little piece is insignificant, but....I plan to turn this ancient wood into control column hand grips on my Sonex #1383.

Hi Derick,

Speaking of control handles, I put the finger notches on my Brake lever handle but left the Flap handle plain. Just to help me make sure I get hold of the right lever in case of some panic situation. You never know!!! Also, the wooden grips you are going to use will add some class to your cockpit. Where did you find that piece of 60,000 year old wood ?
