555 Waiex build update

Postby Fritz » Sat Dec 19, 2015 11:13 am

The fuselage is coming together. The aft fuselage is just about done and we've got a good start on the forward fuselage. The wings were part of EAA's "Give Flight" program, they were built at Oshkosh and given to our chapter. We just have to buy the rest of the kit, build it and fly it to Oshkosh 2017.

The kits going together pretty fast so, if we don't run into too many snags, we should have it done in time.

Thanks, So far it's going pretty good.
If we had the engine lined up we could almost make Oshkosh 2016 ;)

Quick update:

I made the canopy latch plates on a CNC machine today. This was my first attempt at cutting phenolic on the machine, it seemed to work great. I feel better about cutting the heavier phenolic parts now.

I KNEW there was a tool I was lacking. Darn! Very nice!

Fritz,
Mine are essentially, "worn out" as I get my plane ready for the 2016 flying season. Would you be interested in whipping out another set for a reasonable fee?
When I pull my headsets off while idling I can hear a chatter that's coming from the canopy and realized about my last flight out its the phenolic wearing out from sliding the canopy latch forward and back. Plus the stresses it goes through in normal flight.
Like any plane some things begin to show wear. At 458 hrs I don't think two phenolic blocks will break me.
You might have a small cottage industry if you sort out that CNC machine!

Hi Larry,

I can cut another set. You probably want them without mounting holes so you can match them to your longerons?

How about $5 a set plus shipping?

I'm getting ready to make those.

I'd love to get in on that if you were willing to make another.

Sure, I'll make a few extra sets just in case.

I'll start a new thread to see if anyone else wants a set, that way I can do it all in one setup.
