I had ALL of the problems you are talking about.....too close, too far, bend here, bend there. I feel your pain.
Clocking the turbo helped get "better" clearance from the starter. I had to bend the nose gear stops way down and I'm not sure it's going to clear when the spring is compressed. My turbo was against the firewall, bowing it in a little. I ended up putting washers behind the motor mounts to move the engine forward a little. I was able to get it out just enough to get the turbo blanket wedged around the turbo against the firewall. Moving the engine forward created another problem for me. The oil cooler now touches the cowling. My exhaust hit the motor mount too. I took the exhaust to a muffler shop and they were able to make a dent into the lower pipe and expand it at the same time side ways so I have a flat spot but the pipe size is as original. I also had them weld the two pipes together as the springs didn't fit at the engine mount too. Feel free to contact me directly as I have pictures of all this. I talked to Kerry quite a bit about all these problems but he said I was the only one to encounter this stuff. As far as my progress, I have first engine start scheduled for tomorrow.
