That reminds me of this video from Jeff Shultz I watched recently. It was the first time I noticed rain on the canopy of a Sonex while flying. It's towards the last few minutes.

He was probably referring to the fact that the canopy is not sealed to rain. Rain tends to come under the front split between the windshield and canopy and will run down the sides and also drip on the instrument panel. Some have sealed the seam to some extent but most of us haven't. Also rain is hard on the finish of the wooden props we all use. I have been in light rain a couple of times, spent as much time swabbing the drips as I did looking for a way out of the liquid sunshine.

You are right Kip!! I always had a Prince until the turbo upgrade when I went to the Sensenich. I have a paint peel from less than 30 min. of rain on the sen. no peel from rain on the Prince. The Prince is a better prop. but I didn't want to be a beta tester like Mike Farley. When Lonnie gets the props dialed in I will probably go back to him. He makes a superior product and his customer service is superior to anyone in the business.

That wasn't my quote by the way, came from some other discussion on the board. I'm glad I asked though, the thoughts on prop selection will be useful before too long. Has anyone with a Corvair used a Prince prop? I'll also take a good look at the canopy when I get to that stage, though from what I have seen I think Kip probably has the only practical solution.

Glad to see the Prince props holding up to rain better than Sensenitch. That was one of my reasons for referring to Misery being a Sonex in the rain. Nobody wants to fly while watching their $1,000 prop disintegrating. Have seen paint on a Sensenitch damaged by much less than 30 minutes of rain.

Many years ago, there was a popular little book called Happiness is a warm puppy, giving many short examples of happiness. John Carson responded with his book, Misery is a cold puppy, and Misery is a Morgan in the rain was one of his examples. That was a long time ago and I may not have exact titles correct, but close enough.

Returning from OSH last year, I flew through my first rain in my sonex. about 30 minutes of it and enjoyed the dripping onto the panel too. I was sure the Prince prop was toast. But it was fine and very clean.

My Sensenich on my Waiex is now 4 yrs young and seen a couple too many rain storms. Doesn't take long as noted for their finish to be blowin in the wind.
On long cross country's I would always take a hand towl just in case. So I could reach into the baggage area and grab the towel and spread it full width across the top of my panel. I'm not certain how much water my Dynon panel is capable of handling but I didn't want to have to rename it, "Ole Sparky".
Probably best to steer a wide berth around those nasty squalls.

Misery is a Sonex in the rain because its probably IFR and I can't go flying. :D

While we're on the subject. Who has a cover for their bird and how well does it keep the water out? Eventually I'll be transient and need to keep the elements out of the plane.
