Waiex in Louisiana

Postby deftone » Fri Jul 17, 2015 1:52 pm

Hey guys,

I'm Steve from Lafayette, Louisiana. I was building a Cozy MK IV before a job relocation took me to a home with a 1 car garage for the next few years.

Not wanting to continue with composites in this rented smaller build space I decided to go build something else over the next few years. I have always loved the looks of the Waiex so I just ordered my first subkit!

Someone at my old EAA chapter built a Sonex and it always seemed a fun build, so I am looking forward to getting started!

I will be at Oshkosh for the full week and will be attending the open house and hanger party, I hope to see some of you there!

Steve

Hi Steve,

I too was building a Cozy Mk IV before getting into the Sonex world.
I started out scratch building a Sonex, but then sold that project and bought my Waiex.
The Mk IV is a good plane, but I got very tired of doing those seemingly endless glass and epoxy layups.
Working with aluminum is more fun, and you don't worry about toxic fumes and keeping everything the right temperature.
Plus, the Sonex plans are much, much better than the old Rutan-based builder's manuals.

Have fun at Oshkosh and good luck with your Waiex project.

My Waiex will be either at HBC or the Sonex line. Not sure until I get there.
