MGL pitch servo fitment issues

Postby jjbardell » Sat Jul 11, 2015 8:31 am

Has anyone gotten a MGL pitch servo to fit in a sonex. It appears too deep. I can't get the servo control rod to fit between the elevator pushrod and servo arm.

I can't imagine that I can put out the channel to the airframe.

And I can't put the servo under the pushrod because it will hit the servo at full up deflection.

Any tips or do I need a Dynon servo which is an 1" less deep?

Any reason I couldn't use the Waiex push tube to control mounting hole as my Pitch mount for the servo?
It doesn't conflict with the seat and is the right size.

No reason I can think of..... The only considerations when I installed, was to make sure there was NO interference no matter where the control stick was AND that the servo travel does not require the servo arm to go anywhere near 90 degrees and bind. I. Think there's a warning about this in the servo install instructions.

Hi all,
We'd installed the dynon pitch and roll in our waiex , thanks to Dave webber of dynon who has a 'jab .3300 td sonex. Wow fit and quality is excellent. Typical dynon, plus factory support is a+.
I've posted before , the roll arm can bind on the seat pan , we put a 1x1x 1/8 angle on the seat pan , rt side underneath edge. Just enough to keep flex and no binding. Servo is sv-42 EL extra long arm

Just a reminder , whatever servos you are using, make sure nothing is binding or rubbing as you move the control sticks thru full range of motion. The seat pan will have some flex . Put two adult people in the seats , then move the sticks around. Space is tight in there. We also doubled up on our seat pan , bottom and back, it really stiffened it up. And a 1x1x 1/8 alum angle rt side underneath edge, otherwise with someone in pass seat roll servo arm was rubbing on seat pan. Servos should only swing about 60 degrees each way, so to get full travel need a long arm with outermost hole used, but clearance may become an issue.
If traveling to airventure , be safe, watch your fuel and the weather. See everyone on the flight line and get togethers.

Hi josh , was looking at the pics Geary posted also. The second bay from the right should work
, also the third bay may work by moving the servo aft with a longer pushrod . Dynon servos are silver and black , SV32 for pitch and SV42 EL for roll. Dynon install goes first bay from right for roll , 3 rd bay from right for pitch . Before u spring for a dynon pitch servo , try some different locations for the pitch servo from MGL. Anyone else chime in with MGL install advice? Good luck. Just watch your clearances.

Anyone thought about installing the roll servo in one wing outboard of #9 rib (the one with the aileron bellcrank. It looks like it would be a lot simpler, at least if done during the construction. Thoughts?

That's the nice thing about these high torque servo's …. they can be installed in many places. Pitch servo can be installed under baggage compartment, aft of the seat, Roll servo in the wing. I thought of all the options and came to the conclusion that under the seat was actually the simplest (for me) and they're so easy to access if needed.
