rudder pedal fit into blocks

After removing the powder coat on the ends of the rudder pedal shafts and applying bearing grease both to the shaft ends and inside the blocks the shafts are still way too tight to turn inside the blocks. Suggestions anyone???????

Wasn't my idea, but I used a brake hone and it worked great. Takes a little time but does the trick. Also make sure you have clearanced the blocks for the welds on the pedals.

While mine was on a Sonex, I had to really work to clearance for the tube welds. It hung up and bound the rotation.

I used the brake hone method also. It's just trial and error, you want things secure but not in a bind. You could also add some paper spacers between the phenolic halves open up the holes slightly.

Like everyone else (I am such a follower), I just opened it up. I would like to say that I used a brake hone, but I used some files and sand paper... trial and error!

You also need to make sure there is clearance between the bottom of the rudder pedal tube and the center angle on the cockpit floor. Mine worked fine until I tightened the blocks down and then they bound up because the tube rubbed on the angle. Cut a little relief in the angle and works fine. Also drilled a little hole it the top of blocks so a drop or two of oil could be added from time to time.

Brett your lubrication hole is a GREAT idea. I will be doing the same. Sometimes the simplest ideas guarantee the greatest rewards. Surfly

I holesawed my flap and pedal blocks. The 1" holesaw gave a pretty nice fit and I didn't need to open up the holes. I used white lithium grease on assembly. I did a fit check of the holesaw using scrap oak first.
