Woot! My big pile of boxes arrived on Wednesday night. Thursday and friday was spent doing inventory and assembling a wing rack/skin holder. Today I started on the flaps (seemed easiest?). The plans are a lot nicer than the RV7 plans ;) . Made jig for hinge drilling and drilled the flap hinges. Tomorrow I'll trim the flap skins to the small size and hopefully match drill the ribs. Fun!

Congratulations Kevin and welcome to the Sonex family! Your picture reminds me of when I started working on my Sonex. You will will really enjoy the build, I know I did. Hope you have many hours of enjoyment building your Waiex!

I noticed that your rivets were set with the factory head on the thicker piece.
Not sure for a Waiex, but the onex plans calls for those rivets to be set from the thin piece side.
This was difficult -- due to the edge distances on the onex, so I confirmed with Kerry.
Not sure it makes a big difference - but something to consider.

Thanks! The Waiex plans show the factory head on the thicker piece (so whew!).

I recall this being true also per the plans. As a general rule, shop head goes on the thinner material. In this case, the plans are pretty clear on the orientation.

Trimmed flap skins, but waiting to drill to ribs until some friends can help move a table. Started on ailerons. The counterweight cuts nicely on the bandsaw...
