I installed the Aveo Powerburst LED Nav/Strobe light and couldn't be happier. Very light weight, almost no power draw, easy to wire, and I thnk they're only around $400. While I haven't flown at night when it's truly pitch black, I have flown late in the evening and get lots of good comments on how bright the lights are. I mounted them on wingtip standoffs from www.gaugepods.com and the combination has worked perfectly.

Just my two cents of course.

Tom,

I am happy with my LED Aveoflash Powerburst units I purchased from Wicks for about $450.

I have Aeroled lights and I am quite happy with them. At Oshkosh I got to compare the two in the exhibit area and the aeroled's seemed brighter. That year they were about the same price. Today I would go price as a primary concern as I don't think the performance is that great a difference.

I have the Whelen Microburst III LED nav lights/strobes that have a tail light built into them. From behind they shine white. This setup is similar to that on the new Cirrus aircraft where there is no separate unit for the tail light. I believe several of the Aveo models also feature the built in tail light.

I also put a red LED beacon on my turtle deck for additional visibility. The red LED beacon comes on anytime I have the master switched on. This also helps me to remember to turn off the master. The current draw is extremely low with the LED lights.

The red LED beacon I have has a sister model that is white that is used as a tail light. That model is PSA ENTERPRISES MODEL 918 LED TAIL LIGHT TL918. It is $79 from Aircraft Spruce.

Does anybody understand the difference between the Aveo powerburst lights and the more expensive ones like the AveoFlashLP's? Also for those of you with the powerburst it looks like they have the aft facing white light in the wingtip lights, is this right?

Bryan

The powerburst do have a white facing LED

For what it is worth, the FSDO did not approve my Sonex for night ops and one key factor in that was the lighting. Aveo can say what they want but they (per the FSDO) do not meet minimum specs for night flight.

As always, your mileage may vary.

So it would seem that my two choices for TSO LED nav lights are Whelen or AeroLEDs. My hangar neighbor has AeroLEDs on his Luscombe and he likes them a lot.
