Sonex maintenance

Are there mechanics that will work on the aero-vee engine as I am planning to buy a sonex and I can do some things associated with engine maintenance there are some things that I would need help with. I have searched this forum but have not been able to find this information. If there are, I am in Allentown, Pa and is anybody in this area. I would very much appreciate any help that I can get.

What sorts of things are you concerned about doing yourself? The aerovee is a very simple engine and routine maintence on it is fairly straightforward. Let us know what you are looking to do and maybe we can help out. I'm about an hour and half flight away in CT but would be willing to take a flight out there one weekend to help you through the normal stuff like oil changes and valve adjustment. I just need to get the last few hours of my intial 40 done first. Your local EAA chapter could probably help you find an experimental friendly A&Pto sign off on the yearly conditional check if that is your concern.

Thanks for your quick reply. I am more worried about interior engine stuff like carb adjustments or pulling a jug off. I have owned 3 production airplanes and did the oil changes and changed the spark plugs and the things that we are allowed to do. So I have not bought a sonex yet but when I do I will probably be posting a few questions.
One more question do you know of people around the country that do prepurchase inspections for sonex aircraft.

Hi Brett,

Have you looked at the AeroVee assembly manual yet? If not see if you can borrow one from the seller. You can also buy one from Sonex. It's very well written and takes you step-by-step through everything you'll need to know. After reading it you will probably feel ready to remove and replace a cylinder; or rebuild the whole engine for that matter.

The same is true for the AeroCarb manual. I recommend that you learn how to do your own AeroCarb adjustments. It's fairly easy to do, you just need someone to lead you through it the first time.

There are many Sonex builders/pilots in your area that might be willing to help out with a prepurchase inspection. I live in Mt. Pocono, PA and fly out of Blairstown, NJ (1N7) and would be willing to take a look and give you my opinion.

The aeroveen assembly manual as well as the aerocarb manual are both available for download for free on the aeroconversions website.

For what it is worth. I have never built an engine and found the build and then tuning of the Aeroinjector to be very easy. I simply went through the manual step by step.
