Congrats on being mostly finished up Bill! I can't wait to hear your flight impressions once you get the Sonex back in the air! Hopefully the RDAC is back soon!

Keep us up to date on how things go.

The turbo came to life today. The first start was uneventful with no major hemorrhage of oil but it was slobbering rich. 5 minute run and it started to rain so back in the hangar. If weather behaves I'll get the tuning done tomorrow and get a test hop done. Need to get 5 hours done before the weekend so I can travel.

I don't post very often but wanted let everyone know that Sonex 0048 has been restored to fully operational status. After a 13 year break it is back to a airworthy status and has been updated with a new Grand Rapids 8.5" Sport EFIS and a new Turbo Aerovee 2.1. Doing W&B tomorrow and off to my local (Denver) FSDO on Tuesday to restart/finish the Phase 1, it was never completed back in 2002.

Ground runs/tests have been very good with the turbo. Will have more to report after next week once all the paperwork is in order.

This is great to hear! So glad to hear of a home built being saved vs languishing!

I hope some of these turbos make it to OSH this year. It will be good to see and hear about them firsthand.

Sonex 0861 has completed the phase 1 requirements and is again released to the wild. I did the time to climb and stall series and found the stall to be the same at 42 mph at the new gross of 1150#. Vy was 790 fpm at 80 mph. I think the actual climb rate will be better when I can get the "ballast" to run the clock and take the notes on the data while I just fly the airplane! I finished the required flight tests on Saturday but the weather has not cooperated since. Got the ignition dialed in today but just a ground run so far, true test is a flight with the electronic ignition off to see if there is a temp drop. Regardless of where the numbers sort out I think I'm really happy with the upgrade. If I were building at this time I would definitely consider the Turbo upgrade. If I already had an engine that was normally aspirated I would lay out the firewall for the Turbo upgrade, cause you know you're gonna have to have it!!!! This is the best thing to come along since I bought the plans!

Bill
Fantastic! I will try and get by to look at the installation. You are now making me think that I might want to make some changes to my firewall attachments before I finish the plane.

Bill, Mike, and Geary are all starting to give me some turbo fever. Time to start putting some more pennies into the piggy bank... I am slowly moving things over on my firewall in anticipation of going with the turbo someday. I cant wait to see your numbers after you get the turbo broken in and do some cross countries. I really enjoyed the video of Geary showing his turbo installation at the Midwest Sonex Fly in. Bill, I am glad to see your turbo up and running. That has got to feel awesome having that extra power!
