Headsets & Fire Extinguishers

Postby mike.smith » Sun Apr 26, 2015 12:41 am

I'm looking for ideas for locating and mounting my halon fire extinguisher, and a pair of headsets when not being used. For the fire extinguisher I tried looking for a place forward of the spar tunnel, but didn't like any of those options; too cramped up there already. I don't have a storage system behind the seats, yet, but was tentatively planning to make my own fabric sling. I thought about mounting the fire extinguisher on the back of the structural tube behind the seat backs. And thought of maybe just securing some velcro straps from the formers above the seats, for the headsets. Ideas and photos are welcome.

Have the smallest halon unit mounted just above seat back cross box, on right side on aft side of bulkhead just behind the seat (behind co-pilot), easy for pilot to reach, but out of the way and out of sight.

That's where I was thinking. The pilot can reach it there. It'll just get in the way of whatever baggage sling I make there.

I put mine on the floor just ahead of the flap torque tube on the pilot's side.

I mounted my fire extinguisher directly to the back of the turtledeck former on the passenger side. It is a less-visible location, but easy for the pilot to reach and won't interfere with any baggage sling.

Note; my location is Above the seat back cross tube, back side of turtle deck former, which should not interfere with most slings.

How about a place to hang headsets? Anyone have any suggestions. There's pretty limited real estate in a Sonex, but there's usually someone out there who's done something unique (either location or execution). :-)

I just set mine on the glare shield, with the jacks on the panel this gets the wires out of the way getting in and out and while belting in. If there is no passenger I unplug the second set and put them on the seat or in the baggage sling.

I'm thinking about trying something like this.

I travel with two headsets and want to keep one or both out of the way when not in use, not just laying them in the baggage area. Under the turtle deck out of the sun is preferred as well. A snap seems better than velcro.
