Announce and discuss upcoming fly-ins

12th annual Rio Linda CA flyin - May 2, 2015

Life has gotten in the way of aviation, but the annual flyin is scheduled for May 2, 2015. The fantastic BBQ Ribs are back on the menu along with assorted fixin's and deserts for a small donation. Water and soft drinks available. Expect to see lots of examples of Sonex except the jet. Onex, Waiex, Sonex. Lots of Jab 3300's, might even be a Cleanex and possibly the Honda powered Sonex will return again this year. There are at least 3 flying Onex's in the area, one of which has a Jab in it. Also expected to have a large contingent of RV's as well as assorted variety of airplanes. This is a great gathering of some really top notch builders/flyers. Last year some of the guys even took their cowls off to show what it looked like underneath. Usually plenty of rides given to prospective owners. The field always hosts the spot landing and flour bombing contests. I believe the guy in the RV-8 last year put both mains down within 6 inches of the line....TWICE. Given my inactivity, my spot landing is "getting it down between the fences". Hope to see a bunch of you there. Typical turnout is usually 100-150 interested bodies.

Jeffry,

A quick note here to let you know, I won't be able to attend Rio-LInda 2015.
Not quite up to a 13hr round trip over 3 days.
Its been an interesting first 4 months of the year but, things are definitely looking up.
Have fun; tell lies and flying stories, (actually one and the same).
Hopefully a year from now all will be well and good?

It was a beautiful day at Rio Linda with perfect weather and temps in the 80's.

By my count there were about 30 or so planes in attendance. Sorry to say, by my count, there were only 3 Sonex, 2 Waiex, and 1 Onex aircraft present. Rather than being a Sonex fly-in it was more of a general fly-in with a few Sonex in the crowd. The coolest thing (in my opinion) was the bright red Ferrari convertible parked out on the flight line.

It was a pleasant day at the airport. Maybe next year it will return to being a Sonex fly-in.

I will make it next year, I am about half way through the 40 hour testing now. It has been very windy here (18 to 24 knots gusting to 30) on the days I can get out. It is that time of the year.

We actually had 7 Sonex at the flyin, down from 12 the last few years. Only one from OR, non from So Cal and the rest were mostly local. Will try to do a better job of promoting next year.

All the Sonex birds were Jab 3300's. Ray and Cliff each had a Waiex TD. Art and Doc had Sonex TD's, Mike and Doug had Sonex Tri-gears and Merle's Onex is a tri-gear. The popular discussion was how to create a rig that would let the Sonex compete in the flour bombing contest. Any idea's would be welcomed.
