Actually, I think that most "normal" people do act responsibly and it's just the relatively few who don't that get most of the publicity. If you go by what you read in the news all pilots are "daredevils with a death wish".

I'm rather amused at the gyro incident. The guy clearly wanted to make a political statement and knew just sending his letters to congress would go ignored. He had no intent to hurt anyone. He's started a national conversation on campaign finance reform. He made some poor choices, but we should celebrate his dedication.

Compare this to the guy who flew a C150 into the Whitehouse in 1994 trying to honor Mathias Rust who landed a C172 on Red Square in 1987.

Corder stole the Cessna on the night of September 11 and departed from Aldino Airport in Maryland while severely intoxicated, which is presumed to have led to his later miscalculation. The plane was noticed by radar technicians at National Airport several minutes before he tried to steer it into the wall of the White House. At 1:49 a.m., he hit the South Lawn and died on impact.
