Southern California Sonex Builders

Let's all meet up at Mojave Airport on April 18th from 10am to 2pm for the Mojave Experimental Fly-in. It has been a busy 2 years for me. So I have not had time to put something formal together. I will be flying my newly finished Sonex (weather permitting). It would be great to get many more flying Sonex aircraft out there. This will be very informal and will be nice to get together to talk about starting an annual event for those of us in Southern California. Here is a link to the event.

I'm excited to go myself. Unfortunately only have pics of my build. For others that have been to the Mojave Fly-In before, can you suggest places to stay. Was thinking about just camping overnight in a tent from Fri-Sat-Sun most likely likely, but not sure of where to setup either. Driving down from Reno.

Any suggestions please.

I don't know of a lot of places to tent camp close to there with amenities. There is a lot of dry camping near California City in the desert. I would check the national park service or you might look in the town of Tehachapi.

Hey all,

Mojave is my home airport and i'll be there all weekend. Waiex #142 is still not complete yet but very close.. she will be out on the ramp on Saturday the 18th.

Apologize for being so MIA on the Sonex forums recently, hopefully once I am done building I'll have the time to contribute more. Looking forward to seeing some Sonex representation next weekend!

Here is a quick shot of my status and what she looks like as of now.

If you are looking to stay, the only decent hotel in Mojave is the Mariah:

Call soon if you want a room - its where everyone from out of town is going to try to stay. It is a very easy walking distance to the ramp where all of the activities will be. There are no real campgrounds in town, but there is an RV park, again very close to the airport. There is tons of open desert to camp in all around if you are brave.. but make sure you check the winds forecast before you set up camp.

ps. if you can make it on Friday, the Poker Run / Flour Bombing, and all night Movies & Models events are going to be a really good time.

I can't make it to the fly in, but the airplane looks great. Love the color, had an Ace Mach None which I Monokoted the same color once.

Looks great...I really like the custom cowling you put on it. Gives it a little more of a sleek look vs the blunt nose of the factory cowl.

There was a good Sonex turnout in Mojave this weekend, we all had an impromptu gathering around Dana's awesome scratch-built on the center of the flight line. Good times!

My Waiex made it out onto the ramp as well.. and it happened to be my first taxi!

Here is a good photo set that captures the event well. Sonex's have a good representation in the photos!

Looks like a great turnout and a fun time! Congrats on the first taxi of a great looking (and very green!) Waiex! I'm glad the Y tailed group was well represented at the show!
